Eternal Life

Eternal Life

The Bible describes eternal life as a gift from God that comes only 'through Jesus Christ our Lord' (Romans 6:23), contrasting it with the death resulting from sin. This gift is not exclusive, but available to all who believe in Jesus, who is 'the resurrection and the life' (John 11:25). Eternal life is not merely an endless span of years; the term 'aiónios' implies both quality and quantity, functioning outside of time.

Believers enter into eternal life the moment they have faith in Christ; it's a current possession, as shown in John 3:36, which states, "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life."

Eternal life is intimately connected with knowing God and His Son, Jesus. In John 17:3, Jesus defines eternal life as a personal and relational knowledge of the only true God and Himself. This knowledge is not just intellectual, but it involves a deep connection and understanding.

In the New Jerusalem, access to the Tree of Life is graciously restored through Jesus (Revelation 22:1-2). Every sinner, without exception, is invited to know Christ and receive eternal life (Revelation 22:17). This invitation is open to all, regardless of past actions or beliefs.

To know you have eternal life, confess your sins, accept Jesus as your Savior, and believe in His resurrection (Romans 10:13, Acts 16:31). John affirms, "God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son" (1 John 5:11-12).
