New Jerusalem

New Jerusalem

The New Jerusalem, also known as the Holy City and the Heavenly Jerusalem, symbolizes heaven on earth. It is mentioned in several biblical passages, with Revelation 21 providing the most detailed description.

In Revelation 21, the history of humanity comes to an end following events such as the Rapture of the church and the defeat of Satan. After a complete transformation of heaven and earth, God reveals the New Jerusalem: “the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband” (Revelation 21:2). This city, a fulfillment of God’s promises, will be the eternal dwelling place of God with His people, where all tears will be wiped away (Revelation 21:4).

The New Jerusalem will be immense, measuring nearly 1,400 miles in all dimensions (Revelation 21:15–17). It will radiate with God's glory and feature twelve foundations adorned with precious stones. Its gates, made from single pearls, will bear the names of the twelve tribes of Israel (verses 12, 21). The streets will be made of pure gold (verse 21).

Inside, the curse of the old earth will be gone, and there will be the tree of life and the river of life (Revelation 22:1–2). The New Jerusalem embodies God’s ultimate blessings and grace.

Residents include the Father, the Lamb, angels, and God’s redeemed children. In contrast to the evil represented by Babylon, the New Jerusalem invites those who believe in Jesus. If you trust in Him for salvation, you are a citizen of this city. The invitation remains: “The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’” (Revelation 22:17).
